Trentbarton Buses

Download Case Study

Trentbarton, a leading UK bus and coach operator, has partnered with Ocular for over two decades to ensure their fleet is equipped with cutting-edge CCTV, passenger, and safety systems.

Trentbarton has trusted Ocular for nearly two decades to deliver dependable, future-ready fleet technology. From the early days of VHS-based recording to today's advanced TimeSpace V400 DVR systems, our partnership has evolved in advancements in safety and compliance standards.

We continue to offer 24/7/365 technical support, seamless installations, and proactive system upgrades - underpinned by a shared commitment to innovation, safety, and operational excellence.

Ocular initially provided VHS-based CCTV solutions for Trentbarton's new buses and coaches. As technology advanced, so did our systems - from TimeSpace X200s to Synectics' T-Series and, most recently, the TimeSpace V400 DVR. To continue delivering added value, we partnered with Trentbarton to integrate their V400 systems with LAN Link software, enabling secure, remote connectivity over their existing depot Wi-Fi network.

Our Challenge

Trentbarton's original CCTV evidence retrieval process was highly manual and resource-intensive. A dedicated team of eight analysts had to physically access depots, inspect systems, swap hard drives, and extract footage, resulting in delays, high labour costs, and operational inefficiencies. The objective was clear: streamline footage retrieval, reduce operational costs, and enhance system reliability.

Our Solution

We modernised Trentbarton's CCTV operations through a multi-faceted approach to enhance operations and boost efficiency.

Enhanced Connectivity

  • All new buses have dual radio 4G/Wi-Fi routers, facilitating secure remote access from V400 systems to LAN Link.
  • Routers were installed in legacy vehicles to ensure seamless integration with LAN Link via Trentbarton's existing depot Wi-Fi network.

LAN Link Software Deployment

  • LAN Link software has been installed on Trentbarton's servers to facilitate seamless remote access to all on-board CCTV systems.

Remote Footage Retrieval

  • Trentbarton can request and obtain incident footage remotely, using timeframes or geofencing parameters. For instance, if a bus involved in an incident has not been registered at that time, Trentbarton can still retrieve relevant footage by specifying the time and geographic area. The system will then gather footage from all vehicles in that zone, and this data will be uploaded automatically the next time those vehicles connect to their depot's Wi-Fi.

Automated Monitoring and Fault Reporting

  • Condition monitoring and automated fault notifications were implemented, minimising system downtime and ensuring continuous performance.
"Working with Greg, Darren, and the team has been a long-standing, solid relationship that works. The after-sales and support have always been among our reasons for staying with the company for so long. I can only describe it like this: a little like Stella Artois — not the cheapest, but the best!"
Anna Dady, Insurance Manager, Trentbarton Buses.

Results and Benefits

The upgrade has delivered measurable improvements across key areas:

  • Labour Cost Reduction: The number of CCTV staff required was decreased from eight to two, significantly reducing overhead costs.
  • Faster Claim Resolution: Faster access to footage has enhanced the speed and accuracy of incident investigations.
  • Increased System Uptime: Remote diagnostics and fault alerts guarantee that CCTV systems stay operational and effective.

Our collaboration with Trentbarton demonstrates the significance of innovative partnerships and technological advancement. By incorporating remote connectivity into their CCTV systems, we have modernised operations and assisted Trentbarton in achieving greater efficiency, responsiveness, and peace of mind. We are steadfast in our commitment to supporting Trentbarton.

"It has been enormously gratifying to assist Trentbarton in streamlining their operations, footage, and claims review process through remote connectivity. Automated fault notifications have improved maintenance, and remote retrieval has significantly reduced time."
